WHAT WOULD A 1 MILL INCREASE MEAN TO YOU ON YOUR PROPERTY TAX?
• Its $10 for every $10,000 dollar of value of your property
• Duval County current Taxable value $85,928,395,705
• If the 1 millage rate is approved the Duval School District will receive additional $85 + million

Tomorrow the School Board will consider the Superintendent’s recommendation to place a referendum on the ballot which seeks to increase property tax by 1mil to support teacher salaries & refresh DCPS arts & athletic programs. Should the community have the chance to vote on this?
This is why we need to help April Arena Carney elected to represent us on the Duval School Board.

Thank you Chuck for doing all of this research for us. I will research this candidate as well. I am not a proponent of more taxation. I do understand Duval County schools have a huge issue. Much of it has to do with poverty in families, lack of fathers in the home, sporadic attendance, drug addiction and more. Throwing tax dollars at the situation will not improve education. There is so much more work that needs to be done to improve children’s lives. Yes education is vital , but education begins in the home. I am a retired educator and I speak from decades of experience.
i am currently employed part time by a nonprofit organization called Read USA. It is a local program currently assisting the lowest performing schools in Duval county. We are making a difference. In my opinion, organizations like this are the best way to assist teachers and struggling learners Another issue is the lack of respect for educators, low pay, unrealistic expectations of educators and the list goes on. We are experiencing the greatest teacher shortage in decades. Most college students are not choosing education as a career as they’re aware that this career isn’t lucrative, is likely to lead to burn-out. These days a average beginning teacher quits after 5 years due to lack of support. The state continually giving raises to beginning teachers completely disregarding those who have spent a decade or more dedicating your life to education. Their goal was to attract educators to the profession. But the focus should also be on maintaining seasoned educators. It is an insult to pay a novice teacher $10,000 more a year than someone who has been in a profession for 18 years.! The salary disparity needs to be addressed. The unreal expectations of educators needs to be addressed. The lack of parental support in the home needs to be addressed. Early education in the home needs to be addressed. There are a multitude of problems in Duval County schools. Dr. Diana Green has done a outstanding job, given the lack of State Funding I applaud the way she has an out-of-the-box thinker creatively looking for ways to solve the magnitude of problems she faces in DCPS. My next steps are to write a letter to the editor.
