"In our line of work, what you see is not always what you get. 👀
On December 13th 2022, officers responded to a call for a “citizens arrest” where the caller had the “suspect” at gunpoint.
Once officers arrived on scene, they were able to ascertain the “suspect” was not a suspect at all. He turned out to be just a citizen walking down the sidewalk when he was confronted by an armed gunman accusing him of committing a crime. The caller was acting erratically and seemed to be having some type of mental episode.
The caller was actually placed under arrest and during an inventory of his vehicle, the below pictured items were found.
•Ruger LCP 9mm Pistol w/ 13 rounds
•Taurus Protector 357 Revolver w/ 5 rounds
•CZ P10 9mm Pistol w/ 15 rounds
•Smith and Wesson M+P 45 cal Pistol w/ 7 rounds
•Springfield Hellcat 9mm Pistol w/ 13 rounds
•Remington 12 gauge pump action shotgun w/ 4 shotgun shells
•11.9 grams of marijuana
•Marijuana paraphernalia
•Clown Mask
Great job A group Watch 3 and Watch 1.
We believe these officers stopped something terrible from happening."

From JBPD:
"In a one week span, our officers confiscated the below weapons from self-initiated traffic stops and on-viewed calls-for-service.
22-819: (we shared with you last week), Officer Morrison conducted a traffic stop in the 1200 block of Beach Blvd. A search was conducted due to the smell of marijuana, and a 16 yo was arrested for possession of an illegal firearm with the serial numbers removed.
22-831: Officer Thompson found a suspicious vehicle in the Pier parking lot (501 1st. St. N). The odor of marijuana led to a 19 yo being arrested for possession of a concealed firearm and marijuana. The firearm was reported stolen by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. It was taken during a burglary of a USPS trailer in Tallahassee. Two other occupants of the vehicle were also arrested. One for possession of marijuana and one on a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office warrant for no valid drivers license.
22-841: Officer DeLeo conducted a traffic stop at 16th Ave. S and 3rd. St. S. Due to the odor of marijuana, a search of the vehicle was conducted. The driver of the vehicle was arrested for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of marijuana, and driving while license suspended.
22-905: Officer Morrison conducted a traffic stop in the 1st. Ave. S end-zone after observing the driver roll through a stop sign at Beach Blvd. and 1st. Street. Officer Morrison could smell the burnt odor of marijuana and asked the driver to step out of the vehicle. The driver admitted he did not have a medical marijuana card, and informed the officer of two handguns in the vehicle. One was found in the glove compartment and one between the drivers seat and center console. (One of these handguns had a fully loaded magazine with one in the chamber ready to fire.) The search also revealed a fully loaded AK-47 style assault rifle in the trunk of the vehicle. The driver did not have a valid Concealed Weapons Permit.
Chief Gene Paul N. Smith is committed to providing the tools and training our officers need to safely and successfully complete our mission of working with citizens for a safe community. These cases and the outcomes provided prove we are on the right track, and we will keep moving forward!
Great Job Officers Morrison, Thompson and DeLeo! Thank you for keeping our citizens safe!"
