What is going on with the Jacksonville Beach Volunteer Lifeguards? Is the city trying to bring in new management? What happened to the Red Cross?

Volunteer Life Saving Corps has been protecting Jacksonville Beach since it was Pablo Beach in 1912. For 109 years, the VLSC has kept the beach safe on Sundays/holidays (busiest days of Summer) with a perfect record. We're taking over 1.6 million VOLUNTEER HOURS to train, study and use these skills to prevent drownings at JB. Due to some bureaucracy bullshit, the City of Jax Beach has decided to terminate the VLSC w/o much of a discussion. It's beyond comprehension…this VLSC was the first of its kind and spawned many others. As it is…the Jax Beach VLSC is the only one left in the entire NATION. There is a JB City Council meeting TONIGHT (3/7) 5:30…anyone who believe that shutting down this fine institution is a HUGE mistake are being asked to show up at the meeting to support those who will be pleading with the city (we have to plead to keep a VOLUNTEER organization that has represented JB very well for over 100 years…it's beyond stupid) .
Also, if you can not make the meeting (or even if you do), please take time to write/call the members of the City Council…to express to them the idiocy of this decision. Thank You!

Just FYI, The physical lifeguard station and land are owned by a group out of Washington DC, It is not city owned.
