*BREAKING*
There are reports of heavy police presence tonight at the Seawalk Pavillion movies. Multiple police in cars showed up from both sides and they said it was “undetermined” what was going on.
*UPDATE, Redacted Police Officer's Report
“On September 1, 2023 at 2153 hours, I responded to the 100 block of 1st Street North in reference to a report of a woman struck by a bullet.
Upon arrival, I made contact with victim and witness who were attending the Moonlight Movies event at Latham Plaza (10 1st Street North) when they went to a food truck parked on 1st Street to get popcorn. While being served at the food truck, *****heard a loud bang then *****felt something hit her in her right shin very hard. ******looked on the ground and observed a bullet lying nearby. ******* account and stated they did not hear a gunshot, only the bang before ****shin was hit.
***** provided me with the bullet which was intact in its entirety and had no observable damage other than a small mark on the very tip. The bullet appeared to be a 9mm round, based on my training and experience, and was submitted to property as evidence. I observed *****shin which was blue and a bit swollen. *****refused rescue.
I then spoke with *****(witness) and ******(witness) who were serving *******at the food truck when the incident occurred. Both *******corroborated ****** account and added they believed the bullet hit the popcorn machine.
I observed the popcorn machine which appeared to have a dent on the front of it. Pictures of the popcorn machine were taken and attached to this report.
While officers were investigating the incident, police received another call reported as hearing gunshots in the 500 block of 2nd Street South. I contacted ***** (involved) who stated she heard several gunshots south of her residence which she believed to be in the area of 5th Avenue South and 6th Avenue South on 2nd Street. I canvassed the reported area with negative results.
There are no observable cameras in the area the gunshots are believed to have occurred. Based on the information provided by the involved parties, witnesses, and victim, and the extent of the victim's injures and the believed damage to the popcorn machine, it appears as though an unknown subject (suspect) fired the bullet in the air from an unknown location and it fell to the ground as a result of gravity.
There are no further known witnesses, no available suspect information, and no further obtainable evidence. This case is suspended due to lack of investigative leads.”
Patrol Officers and Downtown CAPE canvassed the area for about and hour trying to find anything to lead to where the gun shot came from with negative results."
