I feel we need to have JB evolve back to a family destination. Bars yes, but add a seaside amusement park, Ferris wheel, skatepark and other things to attract FAMILIES to the beaches area.

A "family beach" does bring in more long term $$. Not the hit and run $$ that comes in then is exported out of the community from a bar centric area. The sooner we realize it the sooner we can up the marketing of JB as a destination. I'm all for bars and restaurants, but, we also need a seaside amusement park, skatepark, bmx track, and more stuff for KIDS. Myrtle Beach should be our inspiration, IMO. For one to gain RESPECT one must earn RESPECT. The beach could get so much more respect if we were more that 6 blocks of bars and not much daytime entertainment for families. Myrtle Beach should be our inspiration, IMO.

I have said this all along. Having lived at the Beach most of my life and had the pleasure of riding the "Wild Mouse" and Ferris wheel on the oceanfront I personally know that bars, restaurants and family amusements CAN co-exist. Even Monkey's Jungle sold beer. In the days when there was an amusement park there were bars all along first street, Buddy's Carousel Club, Pete's Bar, Smittys, and the Pier sold beer. If you look at the family parks they all bring in scads of money to an area. We need a "draw" something that makes people want to stay more than a few hours and makes locals want to visit.

Good points, Ginger's. In the plan should be Bars + Restuarants + seaside amusement park + Condos + Parking garages. All can easily co exist, but none should dominate the landscape. Anyone remember the "Wet Banana" water slide across from Pier 7?

RR: "Where in the world would they ever find the land to put an amusement park like we had in the 40's, 50's and early 60's??"
RR: "That would be in direct competition with Adventure Landing. Two amusement parks within a mile or so of each other might not be a good idea. But what do i know??"
CM: "Competition is good. Look at many successful restaurants, most are in groups. i.e. "The Corner", CBD, "Angies,Eng 15,Taco Lu, Mojo" "

Well the first thing you need to do is close down all the bars. Jax Bch is basically a giant bar with a zip code.

IMO, Jax Beach should NOT use Myrtle Beach as an "inspiration." No amusement parks, please. Myrtle Beach is a hot mess - I've only been there twice and doubt I'll ever go back. For Jax Beach, what about a marine science center, quality restaurants, shopping and other attractions that appeal to people of all ages? What about building a band shell and having not only summer movies, but concerts and plays on a regular basis? Just some suggestions from someone who is a little older with no small kids.

Thanks for the input, we need more ppl discussing this topic.
No Bars at all? interesting. Maybe shuffleboard courts for the more mature crowd? :-)

Great reply from Facebook: Kathy Higginbotham: "An old fashioned 'Boardwalk' is a great idea!!! It should be a mix for all ages young & mature just like we had back in the day!! It was a great attraction for everyone who lived & visited the beaches....No one should judge who are acceptable 'folks' .....people come from all walks of life....Some have more, others have less...but we are all HUMAN & should be able to enjoy life's little pleasures!! There was nothing like playing in the ocean all day & then heading to the Boardwalk for an ice cream, a slice of pizza or a footlong hot dog!! I would rather see people having fun instead of another concrete structure of some kind!!"

I agree with you Chuck. I miss Delany's Pizza. It was like $2 a slice. As much as i love Blue Water Grill and The Boardwalk. Some weekends I just don't have enough funds for a $9 burger..

I saw mentioned on here that we should have another amusement park and boardwalk. some responses are there is no room. Of course there is room. Put the cars back on the beach where they belong, then there is plenty of room. The problem is that politicians think we are depleting the sand on the beach by driving on it. The only sand that leaves the beach when driving on it is on the tires.
