I'm the Beaches Food Critic and will be coming to your restaurant sooner or later so make sure you serve me your best. There are many good restaurants in our area so I'll be busy for some time. Follow me, a third generation beach resident if you want the true skinny on what is good and what is not. Turn offs: Cold butter pats, import fish, asking for tips, not bringing me my change( I decide the TIP!), leaving dishes on my table when I'm done, cell phone talker's in restaurants...TAKE IT OUTSIDE!, Cocky bartenders that act like they are celebrities and ignore patrons that don't show T&A, Napkins instead of real coasters, etc. Turn Ons: Thai or any spicy food, attentive smiling wait staff, cool restaurants, booths, Fresh LOCAL seafood, Southern cooking, Sushi, etc.
I rate by "Starfish". 1=meh thru 5=Excellent.

In short, There was a heck of a long line and the service was quite slow. I decided to take my burgers home after waiting 24 minutes in line since it was unbelievably HOT inside. Not sure i'd wait 20+ minutes for burgers again, however the burgers were quite good.

Family was in town staying at PV club. I told them about this great place John K. used to own called players cafe. We dine worldwide and have NEVER been asked to leave to free up a table. 10 of us were at two tables pushed together enjoying the morning together and 5 of us were still eating! The waitress hinted at us to leave...then a rude man came by and asked us to leave he would need the table for incoming guests. We occupied the table for less than 1 hour. You can bet I will nor my family will ever return, and guess what we will tell people about Player's Cafe? Did I mention We have 3 generations of family here??

Popped into Maple Street to grab a quick late breakfast. Parking was easy and a good crowd was there but I was able to order quick and get my to go biscuit very fast. My sausage biscuit can in a styro foam box, which was in a big brown bag stapled shut. I took the styro container out grabbed a napkin which was also in the bag with utensil set up. left the bag and utensils on the counter for someone else, I hate to waste stuff. Anyway on to the job site I munched on my sausage biscuit, which after all the hype I thought was rather small. The sausage appeared to be straight off the Sysco truck, I thought it would be fresh "homemade" sausage not a frozen patty. The meal was tasty but not much better that the 99 cent Micky D. sausage biscuit. I'm still not totally impressed with Maple Streets food, However I will try it again to see what I can discover.
7/14/2014 Grabbed a to go order
Got to say the crew transformed the old place into a modern open and inviting place. I grabbed 3 biscuits to go. One bacon/egg/cheese and 2 sausage gravy biscuits all for $17 out the door and quick. The flavors and preparation was very good. However I personally thought the biscuits were small. I met the owner and he seem as excited to be at the beach as most of us locals are to be here. I'll be back to try a lunch biscuit! ~Chuck McCue (No Pics this visit)

Marlin Moon *complete review coming soon!
I was recently invited by Chef Gary Beach to Marlin Moon in Jacksonville Beach. I was greeted at the entrance by a very warm and welcoming staff. I sat at the bar with some regulars which Gary interacting with. First thought is this is a nice laid back place and I could hardly believe this was the old popular taco place. The place has undergone quite a bit of a decor change, all GOOD!
My first order of business to see what all the fuss was with the signature drink, the "Orange Crush". It was quite delicious, a fresh orange slushy if you will, made right in front of you. It seemed to have plenty of Vodka in it, some float the alcohol on the top or pour it in the straw to make you think you got a great drink, NOT here! Just enough Vodka to satisfy without being obnoxiously strong. The Orange Crush was a great kickoff to a pleasant meal.

Dropped into Lynch's Irish Pub today to get a quick lunch. I only had 25 minutes and was not sure if I could get in and out quickly. I was able to park in my secret spot so parking was a non-issue. I walked in and sat at the bar. I was able to order right away and had my food in 10 minutes. I enjoyed a Mushroom Swiss burger for $9.50 with big onion rings. I ordered the burger medium well and that is how I got it. The burger and onion rings looked just like it smelled....DELICIOUS! I asked for some spicey or hot mustard and was given some unique "Strong" Irish mustard by Boars Head. I really enjoyed the flavor of the mustard, very unique. So I was in and out in my allotted time with a full belly. As I walked out the door I was acknowledged by the GM of Lynch's which appeard to be doing some serious paperwork so I waved back and headed out the door. I'll be back to Lynch's soon!
