Interesting when a non profit group gets involved in politics.
"When the city of Jacksonville Beach originally proposed paid parking, it was under the pretense of a way to increase security in the Central Business District and make the area safer. As a result, the business community accepted this proposal, even though it would adversely affect our business, because it would be better for the community. With the new proposals for parking kiosks, we feel that the City Council has lost focus on the need for security and are treating the paid parking simply as a revenue source. We wish to make it clear to the city council that the business community feels that the City of Jacksonville Beach must make the security of the Central Business District its top priority in any decisions regarding the area. If part of the larger plan to increase security in the CBD includes paid parking, we will accept it. However, we will only support paid parking if it includes on site security or law enforcement. Any other plan is an undue burden on the business owner in the area. In summary: - We do not support metered or kiosk based parking. - We only support paid parking as a means to provide on-site security in the parking lots - We feel the focus of the city must shift back to safety and security in the Central Business District, not paid parking as a revenue source.
