What is wrong with these pics? Mike M. asks, Saturday evening and the end of July and no family activities at the boardwalk. What a great life it was in sixties and seventies at the boardwalk. Families everywhere back then! Saturday evening in Downtown Jacksonville Beach. Beautiful area and it is a ghost town. We need to develop a "draw" to bring in families.. Needed: Ferris wheel, arcade, beach bon fires, more movie nights, more family festivals like the Buddy walk, rikshaws. 1 way traffic on first and second, parking garage west of A1A, etc... Downtown JB has 3 shifts. Most of the businesses are aimed for the 9 till close shift. We need bars and the late shift patrons. However we need a draw for the earlier shift. I'd personally like to see a ferris wheel, boardwalk arcades, karts, another small amusement park, and we really need another pavillion/arena for proms, dances, basketball, concerts, etc

Pam Dickinson Maybe we need different folks on city council. People who actually care about this city and its people, not just ...progress. Im not a political person myself - not smart enough - but I cant think of anything else to help bring family entertainment to the beach. Somebody help me!!! 4 hrs · Unlike · 1

Donna Marks You can only eat and drink so much. Then there isn't anything else to do with small children or teenagers. It's an adult atmosphere after the wine n dine. I recall going to the skating rink and playing then arcade games or just people watching in my youth. When I run the area I don't see many families after 7pm. 4 hrs · Unlike · 4
Jacky Daughenbaugh I personally don't feel that safe down there after the crowd thins out. Some of the homeless can be aggressive and threatening. It's pretty sad and far from what I grew up with. 4 hrs · Unlike · 1
Natalie J Williams When they bring back things where I can take my kids, get a corn dog, play arcade games and ride the tilt-a-whirl, then we will be there. Otherwise what is there to do? Eat seafood, have a drink in bar, or just walk up and down the boardwalk looking at hotels? 3 hrs · Unlike · 5
Kay Kamienski If you go you are afraid of panhandlers or getting mugged .once there noting to do. Inthe 50's and early 60's ther were rides, arcades and people watching. Now nothing, I would be afraid to go there at night. I long for the good times. 3 hrs · Unlike · 3

Natalie J Williams They have created hotels for vacationers and restaurant/bars for adults. They've taken away the kid friendly stuff. That's fine, young adults need stuff to do but don't create an all adult atmosphere and then ask 'how can we get families to come here'. 3 hrs · Unlike · 5
Steph Reeder Many vacationers travel with children and look for family things to do. How are these beachfront/boardwalk hotels family friendly in an adult geared neighborhood? There's only so much sun-tanning, shell-searching and swimming you can do with an 8-10 year old before they get bored! I'd sure vote to bring back some of the good old days when family fun came before all night bars and wet t-shirt contests! 3 hrs · Unlike · 3

Ellen Rogers Donaldson for one thing, there's no "board"walk any more (was there ever, or was it always just concrete). That brick paving is so sterile looking. The ambiance I remember is that of a carnival - so exciting for kids with the lights, music, and lots of people - at night of course. 3 hrs · Unlike · 3

John-Heather Baldwin Harris Anyone who has been there in last several years knows it is terrible. The crime, homeless people lack of "family" activities. All you have is bar, bar... Then you have other areas/things still close enough that take care you families. So question is WHY would/do you want to go there. You do not need too. 2 hrs · Like
